Classes

Each term Te Tuhi offers a comprehensive range of art, design, and lifestyle classes, for both adults and children. Both daytime and evening classes are available as well as an after school programme for children. Most classes range between eight to ten weeks in length. We limit the number of students per tutor to ensure the quality of our classes so it is essential to book in advance.
Each term classes and workshops will be listed on the website.

NEW! Belly Dance Basics

Tutor: Ishtar Belly Dancer
Term 1: 6 week course, starts 18th February | Wednesday 7.00pm - 8.30pm, $50

There are many styles of belly dance and this 6 week intro course will cover some of the basic dance movements.  It is suitable for all age groups and dance experience isn't necessary, just enthusiasm and comfortable clothing.

Class Description:
Hathor I Beginners Class learn posture, basic hip movements, basic Egyptian shimmy technic, hip roll, snake arms, basic veil movements, hip circles, hip 8s, basic ribcage movements. In preparation to learn the Habibi Veil Dance in later dance classes.

NEW! Fashion Design with Lynn Kidd

Tutor: Lynn Kidd
Level One: 8 week course starts 22nd October, Wednesday 6.30pm - 9pm , $175

An introduction to patternmaking techniques and manipulation of patterns. The pattern making will cover high and low waists, facings, waistbands, pockets, dart manipulation and sleeves. On completion of this course you will be able to complete a pattern for your own design and to apply these basic techniques to adapt blocks and patterns into a variety of designs.

Contemporary Acrylic Painting

Tutor: Andrew Barns-Graham
Term 1: 8 week course, starts 19th February| Two independent classes offered*:Thursday 9.30am - 12noon or Thursday 12.30 - 3.00pm, $150

This course is for a people with a range of experience - from beginners to intermediate students - who wish to paint in the increasingly popular medium of acrylic. The course will concentrate on a variety of contemporary styles and practices with a view to how these may influence your own painting.

The class will also look at a variety of techniques, art shop products, mixing paints, and how to use drawing to inform your painting.

Most of all this course is designed for you to uncover and discover the true pleasure in painting!

*Andrew offers two independant classes, but students are welcome to enrol in both classes for a fee of $280

Introduction to Relief Printing

Tutor: A.D Schierning
Term 1: date to be confirmed*, $150

Learn basic techniques in relief printing; shellac board, lino cutting and woodblock printing. Over the 3 classes you will learn the fundamental principals and techniques of relief printing onto paper and fabric.  All of the techniques you will learn on the course you will be able to continue to utilise in your own home or studio.  This course is designed to be suitable for beginners or artists at any level who wish to learn a new technique.Date to be confirmed.

NEW! Watercolour painting classes

Tutor: Micheal Harrison
Term 1: 8 week courses starting 16th and 17th February, $150

Beginners
For those students who would like to try watercolour painting for the first time or want to refresh their painting skills in a supportive environment.
Monday 12.30pm - 3.00pm

Intermediate/Advanced
For students with more experience of the medium, this class will assist in developing your skills and style, using a range of techniques and subjects, with an emphasis on freedom of expression.

Children's Book Illustration

Term 1: 8 week course starts 17th February | Tuesday 9.30 - 11.30am, $150

For those who are keen to discover the world of illustrating (whether it be fiction or non-fiction) bring your ideas and art knowledge to our introductory classes. Tutor Vivienne Lingard, will help develop your skills and publishing potential. An intorductory class for those who are keen to discover the world of illustrating.

Drawing and interpreting 'from life'

Tutor: Mary Ferguson
Term 1: 8 week course starts 19th February | Thursday 12.30 - 3pm, $180

In this course students will explore a variety of media and exercises while working directly from a life model. Encouragement will be given in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere to break out of old habits and develop new ways of seeing. Beginners to advanced students welcome.

Painting & Drawing

Tutor: Adrienne Jury
Term 1: 8 week courses starting 17th February, $135-40

Beginning Painting
Tuesday 12.30 - 3.00pm | $140
This course is designed to encourage students with little or no painting experience to explore a range of approaches using mostly acrylic paint.

Intermediate Drawing & Painting
Tuesday 9.30am - 12 noon | $135.00
For those who have accomplished the basics and wish to develop their art making practice.

Sewing Skills and Techniques

Tutor: Lynne Browning
Term 1: 8 week course starts 17th February | Tuesday 12.45pm - 2.45pm , $150

Lynne's sewing course offers an introduction to basic sewing skills and techniques.
Students will learn how to make a roman blind and a variety of cushions. They are welcome to bring along their own sewing projects.

Office hours: weekdays 9am - 5pm. Payments can also be accepted during weekends at the reception desk from 10am - 4pm but for detailed course information please contact the office during working hours.
