Each term Te Tuhi offers a comprehensive range of art, design, and lifestyle workshops. These may be held over a weekend or on 2 or 3 consecutive Saturdays. We limit the number of students per tutor to ensure the quality of our classes so it is essential to book in advance.

Extending Acrylic Painting Practice with Luise Fong

Luise Fong

Explore the use of mediums, pastes, gels and techniques to keep you up to date with rapidly developing paint technology. Don't miss this opportunity to learn from renowned NZ artist Luise Fong. Luise is this years recipient of the Colin McCahon residency, awarded each year to an outstanding NZ artist. Luise will be encouraging her students to workshop, challenge and extend established ways of painting.

Luise Fong
Luise Fong is a well known New Zealand abstract painter. Using mainly acrylics and water based media she has established an individual approach to abstract imagery, often referencing the natural world and feminine motifs. Luise is of Eurasian descent, and at times also looks at aspects of her cultural heritage for inspiration.
Luise has taught in the painting departments of Victorian College of Arts and RMIT in Melbourne and on her return, taught in painting at Elam School of Fine Arts, University of Auckland. Luise has an established professional practise and shows work in dealer galleries throughout New Zealand.
Luise is this years recipient of the Colin McCahon residency, awarded each year to an outstanding New Zealand artist.

 

Colour Design Workshop

For those who want to increase their understanding and confidence with colour, Join Debbie for an intense workshop covering the first Term material. Topics covered; colour theory, interaction with colour, psychology of colour and colour combination techniques.

Pinhole - The Art of Lenseless Photography with Dr. Evan Reece

Evan Reece

With the advent of automated point and shoot photography, with its clinical exactness, a great deal of play and chance has been removed from the medium. The nature of pinhole photography, with its hand made cameras, lies more in serendipity than automated control. In this workshop we will explore the traditional and contemporary pinhole artists. Students will make a 35mm panorama camera as well as others constructed from everyday objects.

Life Drawing workshops for adults with Mary Ferguson

Life Drawing

Exploring a variety of media and exercises while working from a life model, this workshop is designed as an opportunity for students to extend their own practice, as well as an introduction to the eight week course. 

Mary Ferguson
Mary 's career spans working in the areas of Fine Art, Public Art, Graphic Design and Illustration. She has spent eleven years as a part time art educator, and has taught drawing, painting, mixed media and life drawing for adults, as well as children's classes in drawing and painting.  Currently pursuing her passion for working with the human form, Mary's practice combines
figurative and abstract works, drawing, painting and mixed media, with a recent extension into ceramics. A new Zealander, Mary lives and works as an artist in Sydney and her work is represented in collections in Australia, New Zealand, the UK and Hong Kong.

Knitterati Workshop
Learn top tips from the Knitterati, the most avant-garde knitters in town at this informal and fun workshop. This gathering is an opportunity to troubleshoot your knitting errors, exchange ideas, patterns and meet fellow craft enthusiasts over a relaxed and social knitting session. Bring along your own knitting projects and receive assistance and inspiration from the Kniitterati.

Workshop meets at the Tuhi Café. 
One 1/2price coffee for every craftster. Please pick up your 1/2price coffee ticket from receptions on arrival. Thanks.

Organic Edible Gardening Workshop with expert gardener Dee Pigneguy

A fun and practical workshop to inspire and upskill potential home gardeners.

Dee an ex-teacher, spends much of her time in her excellent organic garden which is for both pleasure and self-sufficiency. She has extended this interest to others with her organic gardening classes.
Dee, who is also author of Feed Me Right - Nutrition Know How and Body Science and Growing Gardeners. And together with her daughter, she teaches wholefood cooking classes.

Learn how to create an easy backyard garden with an abundance of fresh
organically grown fruits and vegetables.

Topics covered:
Planning the spring garden that will work for your backyard
How to keeping it going long-term
What to plant each season for fresh organic produce all year round.
Composting, Worm Farming, Liquid Manures and Organic Sprays
Seed sowing, transplanting, using cloches and watering

What you will need:
Bring along something homemade and healthy for a shared lunch.
To get great tips from Dee, bring along a plan of your home garden area, or the place you would like to put a garden, indicating fences, buildings, sun direction, shade trees and existing plants.
