Te Tuhi, in collaboration with Manurewa High School, are proud to present the fourth annual Future Animators exhibition: 12 November 2016 - 26 February 2017.

Future Animators showcases 3D animation produced by Year 12 and 13 Manurewa Digital Technology students in a year-long programme with video artist and teacher Rangituhia Hollis. Providing real world experience to promising young animators, the project has helped to nurture the creative potential of young individuals and provides a platform for public display.

All schools are welcome to visit the gallery to participate in a pre-booked education programme with our trained schools educator. We have an exciting range of permanent programmes available throughout the year. Te Tuhi's education programmes are engaging, creative and inter-curricular and are designed for school students from Year 1 to Year 13. Programme activities can include observing artworks, creatively responding to ideas through group discussion and practical exercises.

Most programmes are FREE, with morning and afternoon sessions available on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

During this Te Tuhi school programme Secret Meanings we will learn about colour and special meanings through colour. We will learn the secrets to colour through Cuisenaire blocks.

During our visit we will think about colour, paint with colour and see many colours used in a towering Cuisenaire block sculpture Atarangi II by internationally acclaimed New Zealand artist Michael Parekowhai. In the art studio we will celebrate the secrets of colour by creating our own personal colour wheel. We will learn what a colour wheel is, what kinds of colours are used and how to mix paint to create secondary and tertiary colours.

Combine geometric shapes and colour to design your dream house

Take part in this Te Tuhi programme Dream Houses, where we connect art and geometry with architecture. We will explore and learn how geometric shapes have inspired art, artists and many great buildings around the world. In the art studio we will draw on the art of sculptor Gregor Kregar and will use a combination of different shapes, colours and paper to design a tangram-style artwork of our own dream house.

During this exciting Te Tuhi programme I AM NZ we will think about the place we live in, Aotearoa New Zealand, and what makes the country unique. We will create drawings of things that build an identity of the place we live in. These drawings will help create an artwork showing all the unique things that celebrate the identity of NZ.

During this Te Tuhi programme, Stories from the Pacific, we will learn how signs and symbols are used to tell stories in Pacific culture. We will see examples by Pacific artists and be inspired to create our own signs and symbols to tell our personal story.

During our Te Tuhi visit we will use the signs and symbols we designed in class to help create our very own artwork inspired by Polynesian tapa. We will use colour, shape and line with a range of art materials to help tell our story.

During this Te Tuhi schools programme, Creative Stories, we will learn about the various ways a story can be told and why storytelling is important. We will explore our own chosen story through role-play and creating our own poster.

Connecting reality with fantasy through collage

This exciting school programme will help us learn and discover the art of Surrealism. We will learn what a Surrealist painting looks like and why this style of painting is different to others. In this programme we will also explore the art of collage, as well as learning about technology and its influence on art.

During this junior Te Tuhi workshop Photo Chop! we will think about space, depth and technology. In the art studio we will combine magazine pictures, card and other art materials to create a Surrealism-inspired 3D collage.

During this Te Tuhi programme Tūrangawaewae: A place to stand we learn about tūrangawaewae and how it inspires artists and their art work. Tūrangawaewae will also help us reflect our place in the world.

During our Te Tuhi visit we will use a variety of materials and imagery to design individual symbols. These will be used to make a Koru Vine for our class and let visitors know about who we are.

This exciting school programme will help us learn and discover the art of abstract painting. We will learn what an abstract painting looks like and how this style of painting is different to others. We will also think about different types of technology as this will be the inspiration for our abstract painting.

During this Te Tuhi programme, Changing Climate, we learn about climate change, the impacts it has for people and place and how artists are making artwork in response to climate change.

During our Te Tuhi visit we will use a variety of materials and imagery to design and create our very own mixed-media poster. Our posters will creatively highlight and present solutions to some of the problems of climate change.

Capture objects in this plaster casting workshop

During this exciting Te Tuhi school programme we will learn about casting in art and how artists from all over the world have used casting to create their artwork.

In the art studio we will stop and capture time in this very hands-on learning experience. Using plaster of Paris, clay and other moulding materials we will create two plaster-cast artworks that reflect and tell a story about ourselves.
